COUNTRY COUTURE FUNDRAISER

Our annual Fundraiser & Fashion Show was another huge success!    Our fashion show consisted of clothing from a variety of sources:  ReInvent Boutique in Roseville, Tack Warehouse in Woodland, and Bugsy's Boutique.

I was thrilled to once again, coordinate the fashion show and get creative with our Country Couture theme.

Boots were the accessory of the night!

Our venue had a few modifications, due to the final game of the World Series happening at the same time as our event---who knew?
The Manzanita Band was Awesome!

Thanks to our models --- don't they look great in Bugsy's Boutique!

Live a little, wear Lace!

One of last years fashion trends, Lace, is still here for 2014 and if you did not embrace it last year---here are a few tips to help get you in the mood for this year's LACE.

If you're of a certain age, wearing Lace might feel a little awkward, so here are some of my personal tips that I use to bring in a little lace and still feel age appropriate.

First, stay away from full on entire lace.  Unless, you're 21, it's probably going to come off as too much. Stick to a few accessory pieces that you can mix & match, pair with other items in your wardrobe.

These lace items will go a long ways in your closet:

1.  Lace tee
2.  Lace sweater/overlay

Most important, here's what not to do while wearing Lace:
  • Keep black lace to a minimum.  Too much black lace just looks too harsh
  • Stay away from trimmings of Satin and lace.  This can end up looking like a nightgown or slip.
  • Keep your jewelry to a minimum when wearing lace.  Too much competition.  Let your lace be the accessory.
  • Keep it simple.  Lace can be a fun, expected look - but over done, will look like you tried too hard!
 Lace top Lace Tee
Black lace sweater/overlay                   Coral Lace, mineral wash tee

The above items perfect lace accessory items.  Pair the tee with a cropped jacket.  Layer the lace sweater over another tee or cami.  Many ways to wear these beautiful lace tops.

We're trending Spring

Time to clean out your closets and get ready for Spring!  Here in Northern California the temps are already glorious and it's time to unpack the fun stuff!  So what's new in Spring?  Personally, I'm not a slave to fashion "trendy" things---better to wear styles, colors, etc., that suit you the best.

However, it's good to add & update your wardrobe with some freshness---Spring is a great time to do that. Here are a few of 2014 Spring Fashion Trends....

#1:  PASTELS

Pastel colors are everywhere & can be challenging to wear.  Put with White and you can't go wrong.
These mineral wash-tees at Bugsy's Boutique, offer great fit and a feminine lace panel in 2 beautiful pastel colors:  peach and grey

 #2:  SHORT JACKETS

Biker jacket, crop jacket, short blazer---jackets are still going strong.  Pair the pastel t-shirt with a white linen jacket and you've got a great, fresh looking outfit.

#3:  ASYMMETRY

Hankerchief hem, hi-low, one-sided dip, etc.  I've always loved the asymmetrical hem line, the surprising, uneven hem and flirty flare that it gives material is a great way to draw the eye away from one area to another.  It's fun & expected.

#4:  OPPOSITES ATTRACT
The tried & true classic:  Black and White.  We love it and it's not going anywhere.  Here's a great classic with an updated look featuring a hi/low hem, strong abstract pattern, and black & white stripes.

What's up with Mineral Wash?

I just love the feel & texture of a mineral wash t-shirt.  Soft with great coloration.  I also like that the look is a little different from "tye-dye'---not quite as informal.  I recently found these mineral wash shirts with lace embellishments.  The colors are amazing and they feel great on!

Tips for wearing Red

Ticker Tape Dress - Gazpacho/Rainy Day Print

Are you ready for Valentines Day?

Red, the color of Valentines Day - powerful, sexy, energetic.  It conjures a lot of emotions.

But, do you "wear" it?    I'm guilty (like many of us) for sticking to the blacks, grays, taupe's, etc.  I'll add a pop of color - but I tend to shy away from full-on color.

Here's a red dress from one of my favorite dress makers, Effie's Heart, based in Santa Clara, CA.  Effie's Heart makes beautiful, cotton blend designs with vintage, playful prints.

I will be adding Effie's Heart dress-line to my inventory in the near future.  I hope you like it.

This red dress is available--s,m,l.   Cotton/Lycra, umbrella print.

By Effie's Heart:
Five Tips for Wearing Red
Find the Right Shade ~ if you have a cool skin tone (silver jewelry and/or white is more flattering on you) try pink or blue-based reds. If your skin tone is warm (gold jewelry and/or ivory looks best) go for yellow or orange-based shades.
Prepare to be Noticed ~ red can make you the center of attention.
Choose the Occasion while it can be a great choice for a date, it might not be the best idea to wear too much red for an important meeting or negotiation.
Break it Up ~ if you're going head to toe in a dress, add a different color belt or accessories. Or do the opposite. Accessorize with crimson accents, nails or lipstick.
Just Add Va-Va Voom ~ the color red exudes charm and confidence.

Slimming Asymmetrical

Hooray - the "Asymmetrical" hem line is still with us!  I thought at first this look might be fading fad.  However, looking ahead to Spring & Fall 2014 fashions - I'm glad to see that it's still around.

If you want to create more length and a slimming silhouette--the Asymmetrical hem is the way to go.  It flatters everyone as well as, fun to wear.  The loose, flowing hem line---skims easily over our mid-section, masking the waist and elongating the torso (gotta love that!).

Asymmetrical blouses come in a variety of lengths--side tails, double side tails, handkerchief, etc.  It's all good.  The longer blouses can be worn with leggings or skinny jeans for a very sleek look.  Sometimes a belt can be added for extra fun. & waistline emphasis.

This cotton/Lycra, 3/4 sleeve is asymmetrical front & back.
Beautiful aqua color.   Slightly longer length.  Aqua or Olive.  $35

You can shop for this perfect asymmetrical at:  www.bugsysboutique.com
